Teh Economist praisies Hillary

But in general Clinton has disentangled herself enough from the daily
demands of these regions to focus on strategic questions that are too
often given short shrift.

The only disappointment, from her point of view, is that she did not
bring the same skills to fighting Obama, a year ago, that she is now
bringing to serving him. If she had, Obama might have been the one
learning how to play second fiddle.

Sorry I don't have time to check whether this takes comments but it's

politico: Palin receives deluge of ethics complaints [legal defense fund set up]

"[T]he number of ethics complaints filed against the governor and her
staff — as well as the tortured logic they contain — continue to
constitute the most disturbing trend in Alaska politics," said Palin
spokeswoman Sharon Leighow [....]

"In the past several months, we have seen an orchestrated effort by
the governor's opponents to make differences of opinion and ideology
almost criminal," said Mike Nizich, the governor's chief of staff, in
a statement. "Governor Palin has spent a considerable amount of time
and money fighting ethics complaints – and no charge has been
substantiated. I hope that the publicity-seekers will face a backlash
from Alaskans who have a sense of fair play and proportion. I served
six previous governors, and I've never seen anything like the attacks
against Gov. Palin."
"Over the past months it became increasingly clear that supporters of
Gov. Palin needed to help defend against the onslaught of frivolous
attacks against her," said Trustee Kristan Cole,

To avoid additional accusations of impropriety, the fund set an
unusually low, self-imposed cap of $150 per donation. It also
volunteered to disclose the names and dollar amounts of each donor,
leading Cole to call it "one of the most restrictive and transparent
legal funds in history."

Three days later though, another ethics complaint was filed — this
time against the legal defense fund itself.

An Eagle River resident who had recently joined a federal lawsuit
against Palin for failing to issue a proclamation commemorating the
Juneteenth emancipation holiday in 2007, complained that Palin is
misusing her office and receiving improper gifts by setting up the
fund, accusing the governor of intending to raise much more than she
needs to pay her legal debts.

Media Malpractice viewings

On his website there are viewings Through-out the country listed:
Here’s an attached Flyer Tess made up to promote the John Ziegler Viewing in NYC this coming
Friday April 17th.
There’s also a link to a new NY-area website it’s posted on.
He & his promoter are really looking forward to getting PUMA Feedback on the primary coverage.

Media Malpractice announcement on Meetup message board:

The shocking new John Zeigler film, “Media Malpractice - How Obama got Elected”, is scheduled for a showing in New York.

John Ziegler has documented from start to finish how in the tank the media was with Barack Obama in his film Media Malpractice: How Obama got Elected and Palin was Targeted.

Mr. Ziegler, who describes himself as a libertarian and was once a talk-show hosts, used his own money to finance the project that details the rise of Barack Obama from a no-name first term U.S. Senator to President of the United States…with the complete help and what appears to be coordinated effort of the Main Stream Media.

John Zeigler will attend this showing in person and answer questions following the show.

What people are saying:

“I showed your DVD to my students in “rhetoric.” They were left: “speechless.” The underbelly of the media had never been exposed to them. Keep up the great work. The MSM is no match for you.” ~Jack

“What you have done with this documentary is to show exactly how the media can demonize a person or group and how easily they can sweep proper journalism under the carpet…” ~Johann
“I just viewed your film. You nailed it! You covered PERFECTLY: The Wright issue, Bill Clinton’s so-called “Fairytale” comment, Hillary’s response to the Muslim question & how she was set up and more. The General Election coverage was spot-on too. You managed to showcase what we witnessed without injecting yourself into it. Well done!!” ~TPT/NY (PUMA)
“The bias was overwhelming, and you made a very accurate and solid case. I already knew what was going on, but I’m glad to see someone take the immense time and effort to put it all together. I’ve seen reports of single instances of bias, but have never seen anything that showed the consistent bias over more than a two year period.” ~Drew W.

The bondholders, the bondholders. It's always been about them [....] to make sure that the connected financial interests in his Rolodex don't lose their stakes, even in cases where they oh-so-richly deserve to.

This, by the way, is why the Obama administration ruled out the nationalization option for the banks from day one.

The cleanest option, and one we called for loudly in these pages – taking over the banks, throwing out current management, selling off the assets and starting over – was no-go because too many connected players would have taken a hit if their big bond positions went to zero.

Good HHS email link to protect contraception:

Just 17 days to speak up about that last minute Bush regulation which adds more barriers to reproductive health care. This rule, in the name of "conscience" would allow health care providers not just to deny access to care of which they disapprove -such as emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault - but also refuse to give patients referrals or information on how they could get such care.

The Obama administration has proposed to repeal this anti-science, anti-women, anti-family rule, and now they want to hear what we think. Until April 9, they are asking for comments, including: "Information, including specific examples where feasible, supporting or refuting allegations that the December 19, 2008 final rule reduces access to information and health care services, particularly by low-income women; and comment on whether the objectives of the December 19, 2008 final rule might also be accomplished through non-regulatory means, such as outreach and education."

PJM: The Not-So-Special Relationship: Why Obama Snubbed Gordon Brown

[Y]ou'd have thought Obama could have made a bit more of an effort, given that Brown casts himself as a fellow "progressive." And then there's the small matter of Britain being America's staunchest ally in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama will likely have a little more time for Brown after he's told by France and Germany where he can stick his request for more troops.

Ammunition from a Brit site with no place for comments:

a State Department official involved in planning the Brown visit [...] reacted with fury when questioned by The Sunday Telegraph about why the event was so low-key.

The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: "There's nothing special about Britain. You're just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn't expect special treatment."

RCP: Deception at Core of Obama Plans

Forget the "$2 trillion dollars in savings" that "we have already identified," $1.6 trillion of which President Obama's budget director later admits is the "savings" of not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019 — 11 years after George Bush ended it, and eight years after even Bush would have had us out of Iraq completely.

RCP: Why I miss Bill Clinton

Under Clinton, they demonstrated that his party could exercise fiscal responsibility, contain the role of government, learn from liberal failures (like welfare) and generate broad prosperity. He was convincing evidence that Democrats had changed.

Right now, I miss him. Before long, Democrats may as well.

WP: Nancy-Ann DeParle and Kathleen Sebelius Announced to Lead Obama Health Effort

As governor, Sebelius tried twice to dramatically expand access to health care in Kansas, but her efforts were largely thwarted by that state's Republican-led legislature. Still, she was able to lower prescription costs for many people in Kansas and extend coverage to tens of thousands of children from low-income families.

DeParle was previously commissioner of the Department of Human Services in Tennessee, and during the Clinton administration she oversaw Medicare and Medicaid as the administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration.

USA Today: Choice of Sebelius likely to renew abortion debate

Re Nancy-Ann DeParle

"it is likely that Obama will nominate someone else for a second post Daschle had created for himself: director of a new White House Office of Health Reform. One name mentioned for the job is former Clinton administration adviser Nancy-Ann DeParle, who would take over the effort to conceive, sell and implement a wide-ranging health-care overhaul."

NY Daily: In China, Hillary Clinton plays a weak hand

Clinton herself saw all this coming. Two years ago, in the early stages of her presidential campaign, she warned we were undergoing "a slow erosion of our own economic sovereignty" because of our growing indebtedness to foreigners, who, according to some estimates, hold about half of our government-issued securities.

The day she made that warning, a selloff in the Chinese stock markets led to a plunge on Wall Street. In a letter to then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson andFederal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, then-Sen. Clinton said the dynamic "underscores the exposure of our economy to economic developments in countries like China."

ABC: Abortion Foes Vow to Fight a Sebelius Nomination

National anti-abortion groups promise a vigorous fight if President Barack Obama nominates Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as U.S. health and human services secretary. Abortion foes said Friday an important issue is a reception Sebelius once had with a late-term abortion provider who's now facing criminal charges. Administration officials disputed the idea that abortion is an issue as to whether Obama nominates Sebelius.

Boston Globe: Vacancies [for women?] abound in crucial US posts

Only about 70 people have been formally nominated to fill the roughly 500 senior posts in the Defense, State, Treasury, and Education departments and dozens of other government agencies, according to White House records. Dozens of nominations are still pending as FBI and White House officials scrub potential nominees' tax returns, financial ties, and former activities in government."

NYT/Rich: What We Don’t Know Will Hurt Us

If [Obama] tells the whole story of what might be around the corner, he risks instilling fear itself among Americans who are already panicked. [....]

The reason why the White House has been punting on the new installment of the bank rescue is not that the much-maligned Treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, is incapable of getting his act together. What's slowing the works are the huge political questions at stake, many of them with consequences potentially as toxic as the banks' assets.
Will Obama concede aloud that some of our "too big to fail" banks have, in essence, already failed?

We purposely kept regulation on eBay to a minimum, so that small businesses could innovate. And when we spotted eBay entrepreneurs trying to build businesses, we worked hard to help them grow.

Freed from too many corporate rules, and supported by eBay's technology and employees, eBay unleashed the entrepreneur in people around the world.

Nation: Sebelius Record Suggests She'd Be Sound HHS Pick

NOW noted during the brief moment when New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg was the nominee for Commerce Secretary that, "With the nomination of Sen. Judd Gregg, the fourteen filled cabinet departments will be headed by eleven men and three women. Adding a highly-qualified woman... would increase the representation of half the population at the cabinet table, while adding health care and human needs expertise to HHS."

Chi Sun Times: Obama victory bash owes city $1.74 mil.

PARTY IN THE PARK | Waiting for Dems to pay up

Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama's victory celebration in Grant Park -- despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.

"The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us" [....]

Stacie Paxton, a spokeswoman for the Obama-controlled DNC, explained the reimbursement delay by saying, "We are still looking at various costs and bills.'' She would not say whether parts of the bill are disputed.

Times of India: India sidesteps US invite re Afganistan/Pakistan - EASY POST

India will officially keep its position of an "interested bystander" watching the unfolding events in this theatre.

India sought and received an assurance from the US that its decisions and policies in this region would not make India a "target". In other words, India doesn't want to be unpleasantly surprised by a set of events that adversely affects Indian interests in Afghanistan.

The US right now is furious with Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai for consistently hitting out at America but is equally wary of the Pakistan government particularly after the ill-advised "peace deal" with the Taliban in Swat Valley.

It's no secret the Obama administration wants Karzai to go.

Indian Express: Dead ends in Pakistan - EASY POST

The US wants to enlist us in the war in Afghanistan, and side with the Pakistani state in its war against the Taliban.  But [India should not] get sucked into the way Americans define this war. On Pakistan, we frankly don't have many options but to show restraint. This is not a battle we can win militarily, although we have to be prepared for all eventualities.
